Obama vs. Romney: Abortion

Abortion.
Mitt Romney is the republican candidate who would deny American women certain rights that belong to each individual person. If he could, Romney would overturn Roe vs. Wade (1973) a revolutionary court case in which it was decided that it was unconstitutional for states to ban abortion except in cases in which the mother’s life was threatened. Taken from his own website, MittRomney.com, "With Roe overturned, states will be empowered through the democratic process to determine their own abortion laws and not have them dictated by judicial mandate." In a nutshell, he would stop federal funding for Planned Parenthood and deny women their right to decide what they want to do with their own bodies. An abortion is something that should not be decided by a state government, but by the women and those who are involved. In cases of rape and incest, shouldn't each women have the decision to choose what happens? Even in less extreme situations, each individual woman should have a choice in regards to her own body and life. By cutting federal funding to Planned Parenthood and overturning Roe vs. Wade, he would bring women back to the times of fighting for our independence and rights and our freedom to choose.
Abortion is a topic that has been supported by Obama for a long time. When I was younger I was always scared to get pregnant for whatever reason and my friends always said that if that ever happened to them while they were in high school then they would get an abortion.  The reasons were that one, they were in high school and no high school student is ready to be a mother. Second, there was the fact that their parents would kill them.  Now, I don’t believe in abortion.  I really don’t.  If I ever got pregnant whether because I was raped or because I voluntarily had sex, it doesn’t matter, I would keep the child.  But that does not mean I want to take that choice away from other women.  Sometimes a woman is unable to care for the child.  Sometimes the woman has health issues that may endanger either the child’s life or her life.  You never know.  I believe it is evil to have an abortion ‘just because’ but in this case even if we take abortion away, people are not going to change their minds about it and maybe do it illegally. Women might even kill or throw away their children when they are born which is far worse than an abortion.  Besides, like I said, sometimes it is necessary.  It is a touchy subject, but I am for letting women have the choice to have an abortion.  All we can do is hope that they do it for the right reasons.
